Police recruit dies during training exercises in Florida
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a 43-year-old police recruit died during an exercise session at the police academy at Florida State Collage.
Program director Ron Lendvay said Tony Alexander Cephas fell ill during a scheduled water break on Thursday and was taken to a hospital where he died. He says the group had been exercising about 15 minutes before the water break.
Lendvay says Cephas had only joined the academy 10 days earlier.
He described the exercise session as a routine part of the academy training.
Lendvay says Cephas, a military veteran, was married and had two children. He says an autopsy is planned.
