Mutton in Dry Ice Intercepted by FBI, ATF
OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) _ The package made suspicious noises. And wasn’t that a plume of smoke trickling out?
Police evacuated the post office, told the fire department to stand by and called in the feds while they investigated the suspicious package bound for a Sarasota, Fla., address.
The sender, Don Aull, had some explaining to do. He had packed some barbecue mutton in dry ice and was mailing it to his daughter, he said.
``You get away from Daviess County, and you can’t get any barbecue mutton,″ Aull said Thursday. ``You can get baked ribs or broiled chicken, but you don’t get hickory smoked barbecue away from here.″
The FBI and their bomb-sniffing pals at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms opened the package Tuesday and, sure enough, the dry ice had burned through the plastic sandwich bags.
``To them,″ Aull said, ``it’s not a funny story.″
Next time _ if there is a next time _ he said, ``I might go with UPS.″
