Girls Lacrosse Greenwich routs Danbury
After edging Cheshire on Thursday night, the Greenwich High School girls lacrosse team put another win in the books on Saturday and it did so in dominant fashion.
Receiving goals from 12 players and a strong defensive effort, a Greenwich downed Danbury, 20-1, Saturday afternoon in an FCIAC matchup at Cardinal Stadium.
The win upped the Cardinals’ record to 2-3, heading into Monday’s home game against Long Meadow, Mass.
Senior Grace Fahey registered three goals and a team-high seven assists to help ignite the Cardinals.
Seniors Paige Finneran and Katie Large each recorded hat tricks for Greenwich, which took a 13-0 lead into halftime.
“We played a really good game,” GHS coach Rachel Vallarelli said. “A lot of girls were able to play in different spots and we got everyone on the field contributing.”
Danbury goalie Angelyna Custidio was pressured throughout, as Greenwich efficiently moved the ball and created quality scoring chances throughout.
“I though Danbury’s goalie made some awesome saves,” Vallarelli said. “We wanted to get off to a strong start from the get-go, so it was great to see us come out so strong.”
Delaney Roth registered two goals and one assist, while Meg Keller and Jennifer Kelly added one goal and one assist for the victors.
Also sparking the Cardinals offensively were Kate Ochoa (2 goals), Grace Collier (1 goal), Leah Caputo (2 assists), and Emma Norton (1 goal).
Up 10-0 late in the first half, goals by Fahey, Finneran and and Norton made it 13-0 at halftime.
