Newlyweds Have Bangup Time in Mountain Plunge
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) _ When Joe and Colleen Rhine took the proverbial plunge to get married, they didn’t think they’d experience the real thing on their honeymoon.
But while touring Colorado Springs, Joe Rhine, 75, accidently drove off a mountain road, crashing into rocks 150 feet below with his 64-year-old bride.
″We met and courted 17 months and had no problems until we got married,″ Rhine said.
Joe Rhine was treated at a hospital and released, though he says he still has back pains.
Mrs. Rhine suffered a chipped neck bone, bruised spleen, lacerated liver, and bruised ribs. She was in satisfactory condition at St. Francis Hospital.
The Rhines were married June 5 in Tulsa, Okla. While touring the Colorado Springs area last Wednesday, they drove up to the 14,110-foot Pikes Peak summit. On the way down, they went off the edge of the road. The car landed on its nose, 150 feet below.
″We were flying through the air. We saw the boulders and everything below us,″ Mrs. Rhine said. ″You just can’t imagine.″
