ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — The search for a Vermont town's new police chief is down to one candidate, a retired state trooper.

The Caledonian-Record reports retired Detective Sgt. Tim Page is now the only remaining candidate in the search for St. Johnsbury's next police chief. St. Johnsbury Town Manager Chad Whitehead says Stowe Police Senior Officer Scott Keane was a good candidate, but not the best match for the town at this time.

Page has previously said he wants another challenge, and he would focus on team building within the department.

Former Police Chief Clem Houde resigned in June after he faced accusations of exchanging inappropriate text messages with a female subordinate.
