2 Killed, 1 Hurt in Fla Beach Brawl
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Two men were beaten and stabbed to death and another was seriously injured after defending a woman whose harassers rounded up friends and returned with baseball bats and knives, authorities said.
Kevans Bradshaw Hall II, 23, and Matthew Wichita, 21, were killed in the fight at a beach resort Thursday night and Seth K. Qubeck, 21, was listed in serious but stable condition with 17 stab wounds, police said. The men were from Columbia, Md.
Three local men went to the Ocean Palms resort to get back a ring one of them gave to a woman he met the night before, said police Lt. Wade Kirby.
When the men became aggressive with her, the Maryland men stepped in to help her and a fight started, Kirby said.
The local men _ Neil Ryan Kirkland, 20, Daniel Stephan Osborne, 19, and Joshua Alan Trull, 17 _ returned later with friends and attacked the Maryland men, Kirby said.
Trull, a high school student, was charged with being a principal to first-degree murder. Kirkland was charged with aggravated battery. Osborne was charged with being a principal to second-degree murder. Trull’s brother, Jonathan Edward Trull, 27, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Three other men were still being sought, Kirby said.
James Tack, general manager of Ocean Palms, about 20 miles south of Daytona Beach, said the attack apparently took place on the beach. ``It’s a senseless tragedy,″ he said Friday.
Kirby said it is the first time in at least 15 years that a tourist has been killed in the town.
``This isn’t the kind of thing you expect when you come down for spring break,″ Kirby said.
