Third vehicle fire this week on SW CT highways

The third car fire this week on a southwest Connecticut highway broke out on Route 8 in Shelton Wednesday morning.

Around 9 am Echo Hose Hook and Ladder reported Companies 1 and 3 were dispatched to Route 8 in the area of Exit 12 for a motor vehicle fire.

“Squad 1 arrived to find a working car fire southbound between Exits 13 and 12. Crews had the fire under control within minutes. Squad 1 and Engine 35 remained on scene for a short period until the vehicle was removed by the tow,” the company posted on its web site.

It was the second vehicle fire this week on Route 8 in Shelton.

On Monday, the fire, reported at 8:09 a.m., has closed most northbound lanes between Exits 11 and 12.

On Tuesday, another vehicle fire happened on the northbound Merritt Parkway, near Exit 44 in Fairfield.

That fire, reported at 6:41 a.m., has closed the right lane between Exits 44 and 46 in Trumbull.

All the vehicle fires happened during the AM commute and no injuries were reported.
