Franz, Lowell Catholic Top Pope John

Madi Franz filled the stat sheet with 13 kills, 8 digs, 4 aces and 2 blocks to power the Lowell Catholic girls volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Pope John on Wednesday.

Game scores were 26-24, 25-19, 26-24. Also shining for the Crusaders were Brenna Riley with 7 kills, 2 aces, 2 assists and 5 digs, and Maggie McGovern with 8 aces, 3 kills, 6 digs and an assist.

Elizabeth Cullen added 25 assists, 4 aces and a kill.

Westford Academy 3

Concord-Carlisle 0

Westford (3-0) stayed unbeaten, sweeping this match with wins of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-11.

Senior middle hitter Caitlin Cannuscio had 7 kills, 3 aces and 3 blocks for the Grey Ghosts.

Central Catholic 3

Sarah Janco had 6 kills and 2 blocks, Rachel Hyatt had 19 assists and Mackenzie Hall had 10 digs to power Central.

The Raiders won by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-10.

For Dracut, Meghan Gedrich played well at the net and Sabrina Morse excelled defensively.

Bridget Didona played well for the Lions with 3 kills and 2 blocks, but Lawrence was too tough with victories of 25-16, 25-7 and 25-8.

Julia Perreira and Brooke Coughlin combined for 11 digs.

North Andover 3

Lowell 1

Despite 12 kills and 9 digs from outside hitter Dai Thawngmung, the Red Raiders lost their season opener on the road.

Lowell won the first game 25-23, but then fell 25-12, 25-23, 25-10.

Opposite hitter Keara Page and outside hitter Amya Lomphoy added 3 kills each.

Middle blockers Mia Ly and Sofia Cruz claimed 2 blocks each.

Pelham dropped a marathon first set, 29-27, and didn’t have enough left in the tank in the next two, losing 25-8 and 25-16.

Maria Dagher had 8 service points and 3 blocks for the Pythons (1-3). Natalia Villanueva had 12 digs and 2 kills. Elise Hooper added 13 digs.

North Middlesex 3

Worcester Tech 1

Fueled by Dani Croft and Alissa Olmsted, the Patriots captured a 25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19 victory on the road.

Croft collected 12 kills and 8 aces, while Olmsted racked up 8 assists, 4 kills and 3 digs for North Middlesex (2-1).

Bianca Premo served 6 aces in a row.

Bishop Guertin 3

Windham 0

Alicia Glasheen contributed 12 assists and 5 digs to fuel the Cardinals to the NHIAA conquest.

Paola Matos claimed 14 digs for Bishop Guertin (3-0) in the 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 win. Also standing out were Libby Knapp with 3 aces and 5 kills, and Rita Dow with 3 aces and 5 kills.
