2 Turkish policemen shot dead near border with Syria
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — An official says two police officers were found shot dead in their home near Turkey’s border with Syria.
Governor for Sanliurfa province, Izzettin Kucuk, said Wednesday it was not immediately clear if the attack against the policemen, who were sharing a house in the border town of Ceylanpinar, was terrorism-linked.
The assault comes two days after a bomb in the nearby the town of Suruc, also near the Syrian border, killed 32 people and wounded nearly 100.
Officials have raised concerns that the deadly bombing is part of a campaign of retaliation by the Islamic State group against Turkey for a recent crackdown on its operations in the country.
