WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) _ Art Munoz hit a two-run homer to cap a four-run first inning Saturday as Garland, Texas, beat Evansville, Ind., 7-5 in a Pony World Series game.

Garland (2-1) awaited the results of the late game Saturday between Washington, Pa. (1-1), and Danville, Calif. (2-0), to learn if it would play Hamilton, Ohio (2-1), in Sunday’s championship game.

In the bottom of the first inning, Garland had back-to-back doubles from Ricky Glazier and Lawrence Valbuena and a single by Aaron Jaschke before Munoz hit the two-out home run.

With Evansville down by four, Cory Macke hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh off of Munoz, who was the winning pitcher. But Evansville got no closer, leaving 12 runners on base with nine in scoring position.

Losing pitcher Chris Stratman pitched just two-thirds of the first inning for Evansville, which was 0-3 in the competition.
