Dance for Thee Wins Rampart

MIAMI (AP) _ Dance for Thee, a 34-to-1 longshot, won the Grade 2, $200,000 Rampart Handicap at Gulfstream Park on Sunday.

Dance of Thee closed strong on the outside to beat Escena by two lengths. The favorite Glitter Woman finished third another half-length behind.

Dance for Thee, ridden by Joe Bravo, ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44 3/5 and paid $68.80, $15.80 and $3.40. Escena paid $3.40 and $2.20 and Glitter Woman paid $2.10 to show. The winner carried 113 pounds, Escena 119 and Glitter Woman 121.

Glitter Woman took the lead early with Escena second and Glitter Woman third and the leaders quickly outdistanced the other three entries.

Approaching the quarter pole, Escena moved up on the outside and Dance for Thee dropped two lengths behind.

Glitter Woman and Escena battled head and head, but with 70 yards to go, Dance for Thee ran by both to win decisively.

Dance for Thee is a 4-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Sword Dance. She’s won twice in three starts this year, earning $162,460.

Owned by John Franks, Dance for Thee has won seven of 16 lifetime races and has lifetime earnings of $518,119.

In the eighth race, Accelerator, who was once a leading contender for last year’s Kentucky Derby, made his first start since last April’s Wood Memorial.

Accelerator, who was stopped by injury before reaching the Derby, finished second to Thunder Reef in the seven-furlong race.

Accelerator was 10 lengths off the pace before closing with a rush and losing by a neck.
