DAEJEON, South Korea (AP) _ Thank you, South Korea.

Needing just a tie to advance to the second round of the World Cup, the United States gave up a pair of goals in the first five minutes and flopped to Poland 3-1 Friday night.

But with their chances of advancement seemingly over after Poland took a three-goal lead in the 66th minute, the Americans were revived just two minutes later.

Park Ji-sung scored for South Korea at Incheon against Portugal and the South Koreans held on for a 1-0 win that put the Americans in the second round for the first time since 1994. The United States will play Mexico on Monday.
