FOOTBALL 2018: Dunmore Bucks Outlook

August 20, 2018

Dunmore is reloading after a run to the PIAA 2A semifinals.

Defense will be the strength of the team again.

The Bucks return six starters, including All-Region junior defensive back Steve Borgia, who had 39 tackles and four interceptions. Borgia is also a solid return man. He had 12 kickoff returns for 354 yards and a touchdowns and 24 punt returns for 371 yards.

Linebacker George Mesko earned first-team, all-star honors in Division III.

While the Bucks must replace

All-Region Defensive Player of the Year Nick Shoemaker and Michael Muracco in the middle, both ends return. Tyler Overholtz was a second-team LFC all-star and Kyle Harrity is a solid pass rusher.

Joining Borgia in the secondary is speedster Greg McDade, who was an LFC Division III second-team all-star.

The offense must replace almost the entire line.

Jake Sawka (6-0, 285) is in his fourth season as a starter. Anthony Santarsiero (6-3, 230) can have an impact up front.

“These guys who are in the same grade as me all look up to me and I am trying to show them the way the linemen have done the last few years,” Sawka said. “We had a lot of guys rotate in there with the first team last season, so I am really excited about this group.”

Billy Donvito returns at running back after totaling 634 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Bucks are expecting big contributions from sophomore Cristian Buckley, who had 500 yards rushing and three touchdowns after missing several weeks with an injury.
