ST LOUIS (AP) _ Ameren Corp. (AEE) on Friday reported second-quarter earnings of $239 million.

The St. Louis-based company said it had net income of 97 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 79 cents per share.

The utility posted revenue of $1.56 billion in the period.

Ameren expects full-year earnings to be $3.15 to $3.35 per share.

Ameren shares have climbed nearly 5 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen nearly 6 percent. The stock has climbed almost 9 percent in the last 12 months.
