Senators 5, Mighty Ducks 2
KANATA, Ontario (AP) _ Teemu Selanne scored three goals and Mikhail Shtalenkov blocked 51 shots to lead the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday night.
Selanne, who leads the league with 49 goals, scored on a first-period power play, a second-period breakaway and into an empty net with 1:33 left in the third period.
Steve Rucchin added a goal and two assists for the Ducks, while Frank Banham also scored to give head coach Pierre Page his 250th NHL win.
Alexei Yashin and Andreas Dackell scored for the Senators, who lost despite firing a franchise-high 53 shots at Shtalenkov.
Ottawa goalie Ron Tugnutt, playing in his 300th NHL game, finished with 21 saves.
Ottawa holds down the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot by five points over the New York Rangers, who lost 5-4 to Philadelphia in overtime. Ottawa takes on the Rangers in New York on Wednesday.
The Ducks, who entered the game in last place in the Western Conference, are 2-1-1 during a seven-game road trip, the longest in franchise history.
Banham opened the scoring for Anaheim at 11:51 by deflecting in David Karpa’s point shot.
Selanne scored his first of the night 3:43 later on a power play.
Yashin knocked in a rebound on a power play at 17:25 to make it 2-1, but Rucchin restored the two-goal lead before the end of the period.
Selanne beat Tugnutt on a breakaway to give Anaheim a 4-1 lead with 1:53 left in the second period.
Dackell scored Ottawa’s final goal of the game at 3:55 of the third when the puck trickled past Shtalenkov. Selanne added an empty-netter late in the period to complete the hat trick.
The Ducks are 6-1-1 all-time against the Senators.
