NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is up 14 points in today’s early going. Losing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 6-5 lead over gainers.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is off two points and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index is up fractionally.

Wall Street is in full Fed-watch today.

The Federal Reserve’s policy panel is holding its final interest rate meeting of the year today in Washington.

Blue chip stocks soared yesterday amid growing hopes for a strong stance against recession by the central bank.

But after yesterday’s 210-point advance for the Dow, it may take some direct word from the Fed before stocks are able to move higher from here.

The Federal Reserve is expected to release a statement on today’s meeting at about 2:15 p.m. EST.
