Commission denies certificate for wind farm
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — The Maryland Public Service Commission has denied a wind-power developer’s request to construct a 17-turbine wind farm on Dan’s Mountain.
The Cumberland Times-News reports the commission denied Dan’s Mountain Wind Force’s request for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity as well as any other outstanding requests on Friday. The commission affirmed an order issued by a public utility law judge in January.
According to documents, the commission found that the noise produced and the perceived shadow flicker would not be fully mitigated by incorporating licensing conditions.
Dan’s Mountain Wind Force has argued that the project will create jobs and tax revenue for the county.
