RIGA, Latvia (AP) _ Eimantas Poderis scored with 23 minutes remaining and Andrius Terestinas scored with four minutes left Wednesday night as Lithuania rallied past Latvia 2-1 in a qualifying match for the 1994 World Cup.

Latvia (0-1) took the lead in the 20th minute before 7,000 fans at Daugava Stadium as Ainars Linards took a pass from Jurijs Popkovs and headed the ball past goalkeeper Vladimaras Martin-Kenas.

Poderis tied the score for Lithuania (1-1-1) when he beat Latvia goakeeper Olegs Karavajev on a breakaway, lobbing the ball over his head. Terestinas scored off the rebound of a saved penalty kick.

Latvia was without two of its stronger players, who are injured: goalkeeper Raimonds Laizans and forward Janis Intenbergs.

European champion Denmark (0-0), Spain (1-0) and Ireland (1-0) are the favored teams in Group One, which also includes Albania (1-2) and Northern Ireland (0-0-1). Two teams will advance to the 1994 World Cup, to be played in nine U.S. cities from June 17-July 17, 1994.
