La Porte girls soccer schedule change Saturday

La Porte’s girls soccer team will play a 35-minute JV half prior to a full varsity match versus Mishawaka on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. CDT at Kesling Park.

Slicers boys tennis gets topped by St. Joe

La Porte’s boys tennis team lost 3-2 to South Bend St. Joseph at home on Wednesday. The Slicers’ Graham Siefker and Alex Ake prevailed 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, and at No. 2 doubles, Carson Stalbaum and Liam Wolf won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Andy Emmons fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No. 2 singles, Quentin Spears lost 6-0, 6-0. Tristen Poe dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 3 singles.

Cougars volleyball drops home decision

New Prairie’s volleyball team fell in four games, 19-25, 25-23, 25-10, 25-16, to South Bend St. Joseph at home on Thursday night. The Cougars’ Katie Hancock earned 14 kills, 12 digs, four blocks and three aces, and Elise Swistek had 11 kills and 10 digs. Sarah Fronk added 18 assists.

NP girls golf downs Clay

New Prairie’s girls golf team beat Northern Indiana Conference foe South Bend Clay 210-265 on Thursday. The 210 was the Cougars’ lowest nine-hole score this year. Jordan Winters led New Prairie (3-6 NIC) and recorded match medalist with a personal-best 40. Zoie Martinez shot 55, and both Liv Trojanowski and Cyd Palmer also shot personal bests with 56 and 59, respectively.

Marquette boys soccer boots Westville

Hugo Lopez’s hat trick paced Marquette to an 8-2 boys soccer win over Westville (1-2) on Friday. Rob Barron, Pat Connelly, Fernando Guerra, Jalen Russell and Charlie O’Halloran also scored for the Blazers (3-0-2) with Gavin O’Halloran, Matt Devens, Jon Beglin, Connelly, Russell and Charlie O’Halloran all picking up assists. Jack Mason made two saves with Liam Monroe and Adam Burroughs turning aside one shot each.

City golfers edged by Valpo, LC

Michigan City dropped a close girls golf match with Valparaiso and Lake Central on Thursday at Michigan City Municipal, 174-174-180. The Indians won a fifth-score tie-breaker. M.C. (7-2, 4-2 Duneland Athletic Conference) was led by Lia Thomas’ 44, which was one shot better than Taylor Skibinski and Sara Poulin. Emily Gushrowski carded a 46. Emma Sells posted a 57.

Blazers boys soccer edges Lakers

Marquette’s boys soccer team topped La Lumiere 2-1 on Tuesday at La Lumiere. Sidney Mahone netted the match-winner in the 78th minute for the Blazers (2-0-2), off Gavin O’Halloran’s feed. Marquette’s Hugo Lopez broke open the scoring in the 36th minute with an unassisted goal. The Lakers recorded the equalizer via a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. The Blazers’ Liam Monroe tallied six saves in net.

Westville girls volleyball sweeps foe

Westville’s girls volleyball team improved to 6-2 with a three-game win over Gary West Side, 25-11, 25-5, 25-13, at home on Thursday. The Blackhawks’ Ali Hisick posted six kills, and Cassie Janas had four kills. Sarah Henrich tallied seven assists and five aces, and Peyton Rodgers had five aces. Paige Chasko passed the ball solidly.

Glenn girls golf posts first in tri

John Glenn’s girls golf team won a triangular, carding 204, compared to second-place North Judson’s 235, and third-place Oregon-Davis’ 268 at Chesapeake Run on Wednesday. Megan Kobelt paced the Falcons (9-1) with 46 and earned match medalist, and Bethany Hayden had 51. Emma Egger shot 53, and Abby Machnic chipped in 54. Danielle Pinkham led O-D with 67.

Slicers JV volleyball falls to Bulldogs

La Porte’s JV volleyball team fell in two games, 25-16, 25-18, to Crown Point on Thursday.

7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K

The 7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K will be Sept. 15 in Washington Park, starting at 8 a.m. at the shelter by the splash pad. Proceeds from the run go towards pediatric cancer research at Riley Children’s Hospital. The race was named in honor of Prestin, who was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He successfully battled the cancer and is now 17 and cancer-free.

Dates announced for 2018 Porter AM

The 63rd annual Porter AM golf tournament will be played the weekends of Sept. 8-9 and Sept. 15-16. The master division and women’s division will start at 8 a.m. Sept. 8 at Forest Park; the open division will start at 8 a.m. that day at The Brassie. Master division and women’s division will continue at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Sand Creek; and the open division will continue at 11 a.m. at Valparaiso Country Club. On Sept. 15, masters and women will start at 8 a.m. at The Brassie; the open division will start at 11 a.m. at Sand Creek. 10th annual Bike Michiana for Hospice ride

The Center for Hospice Care and the Hospice Foundation announce the 10th Annual Bike Michiana for Hospice will take place Sunday, September 23, starting and finishing at the Center’s Mishawaka Campus next to Central Park, along the scenic St. Joseph River.
