Crusaders blank Dust Devils 11-0
MOHAVE VALLEY — Ryan Lopez pitched a five-inning, mercy-rule shortened shutout, while the Northwest Christian High School Crusaders whitewashed the host Dust Devils at River Valley on Friday night.
Seniors Logan Knox, Evan Oehler and Cole Shott each recorded singles for the Dust Devils.
“Cole Shott drilled the ball really well, and Evan Oehler crushed the ball to left field, too, he did really well,” Dust Devils head coach Bill Fregozo said.
Dust Devils right-handed pitcher Aiden Gunn pitched the first two
innings and took the loss.
“He pitched well,” said Fregoza about Gunn’s performance on the mound. “We just didn’t make the plays we were supposed to make for him.
“We made a couple of errors and we didn’t hit. We didn’t hit at all.”
The Arizona Interscholastic Association 3A West Region loss dropped the Dust Devils’ record to 2-11 overall, according to MaxPreps. The Crusaders are 9-5 overall.
The Crusaders are ranked No. 8 according to aiaonline.org. The Dust Devils are ranked No. 32.
The AIA 3A conference is comprised of 39 high schools.
“It was not the same team; we did not play the same baseball we had been playing that’s for sure,” Fregozo said.
