Pregnant Woman Saves Self and Son from Fire
ROXTON, Texas (AP) _ A pregnant woman pushed her 4-year-old son from a porch roof and then jumped to escape a fire, and gave birth to a healthy boy shortly afterward, officials said.
Doctors performed a Caesarean section on Kim Lahman, 24, who received burns and a broken ankle in the fire Wednesday night. She was listed in stable condition, said Derald Bulls, spokesman for L.P. McCuistion Hospital in Paris.
Darrell Lahman, who was at work at the time, said his wife had sent their son Noah to alert neighbors when the fire broke out. The boy later returned to the house, where Mrs. Lahman apparently was trying unsuccessfully to rescue the family’s seven dogs and several exotic birds, he said.
″By then, they couldn’t get down the stairs, so they went into our spare bedroom and she broke the window out and got out onto the porch roof,″ he said. ″From there, she pushed Noah off, about a 14-foot drop, and then she jumped off.″
Noah was not hurt.
