Parking complaint leads to drug arrest
A Beatrice man was arrested Monday after police spotted a pipe while investigating a parking complaint.
At around 6 p.m. Monday, Beatrice police were dispatched to the 700 block of North Ninth Street. Court documents state that a Chevrolet Corvette was parked on the road blocking a driveway.
Officers recognized the man working on the car as 50-year-old Shaun Turner. Turner told police he was working on the vehicle’s alarm and would have it towed if needed. Documents state that a glass tube with burnt residue was sitting on the center console of the vehicle and it was clearly visible with the car’s convertible top down.
The officer requested assistance, and the tube had been moved when the officer returned. It was found inside a box with tools and tested positive for methamphetamine.
During a further search police found a glass smoking device with burnt marijuana and a straw in the center console.
Turner was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and parking a vehicle in front of a driveway.
Bond was set at $7,500 with a 10 percent deposit. Turner’s next hearing is set for Aug. 7.
