Riverton joins list of cities suing opioid makers
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming city of Riverton has joined a growing list of municipalities nationwide in filing federal lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and distributers.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports the lawsuit filed Tuesday accuses about two dozen companies of misrepresenting the addictive properties of the prescription painkillers.
Attorney Jason Ochs is representing Riverton. He’s also representing Casper, Cheyenne, Rock Springs and Carbon County in similar suits.
Riverton’s lawsuit will be combined with others in Cleveland federal court, but Ochs says it will be moved back to Wyoming if it goes to trial.
Riverton Mayor Richard Gard says the city isn’t expecting the suit to be a “money maker,” but it shows the city supports controlling opioids.
