Masked Gunmen Attack University Official’s Home
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) _ The general secretary of the Autonomous University of El Salvador said Tuesday that a group of masked gunmen attacked her home the previous night, firing automatic weapons at the building and throwing hand grenades.
Dr. Ana Gloria Castaneda, 35, told a group of reporters, ″The attack by masked gunmen started at 8.45 p.m. and, although no one was hurt, damage to the property was considerable.″
The house is located in a residential section of the capital. Castaneda, a medical doctor, is general secretary of the university’s administrative council.
None of the five leftist guerrilla groups fighting for power since 1979, nor rightist death-squads, which hunt down suspected leftists, have claimed responsibility for the attack.
