Man found dead in home after lengthy police standoff
GROTON, Conn. (AP) — A 17-hour standoff between police and a man barricaded inside a Connecticut home has ended with the man dead.
Groton police say the man, whose name has not been made public, began at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday when his wife called police to say her husband had a gun. Police helped the woman and two children escape the home unharmed. Several neighbors were also evacuated.
Officers entered the home just after noon on Wednesday to find the man dead.
Police Chief L.J. Fusaro says it’s not clear when the man died and the cause remains under investigation.
The housing complex where the man lives is home to many Navy personnel who work at a nearby submarine base, but police did not say whether the man is affiliated with the military.
