Girls hockey | Faribault 7, Century 1
Rochester Century hung with Faribault for two periods, but the Falcons pulled away with four third-period goals to win a Big Nine Conference girls hockey game 7-1 at the Rochester Recreation Center on Tuesday.
Six players scored at least once each for the Falcons. Kayli Burkhartzmeyer led the way with two goals, while Rylie Starkson had a goal and two assists, and Olivia Morelan and Haley Lang each had a goal and an assist.
Abigail Goodwin and Tori Pavel also scored for the Falcons (0-0-0, 4-0-0), who reached the Section 1A semifinals a year ago and have high hopes to challenge for a section championship this season.
Elizabeth Oyen scored Century’s lone goal, an unassisted tally at the 5:54 mark of the second period. That goal cut the Panthers’ deficit in half, to 2-1, but Century couldn’t get anything else past Falcons goalie Mikayla Bohner (19 saves).
Macy Lund stopped 27 of the 34 shots she faced for Century (0-3-0, 0-3-0). The Panthers play host to Mankato West at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the Rec Center.
