NEW YORK (AP) _ Agent Bill Goodstein, who negotiated Darryl Strawberry's deal with the New York Yankees last season, died Saturday after having a heart attack at his Manhattan office. He was 56.

Goodstein, who also represented former New York Yankee Dave Righetti, was a diabetic with a history of heart ailments. He was recently hospitalized for eight days with circulation problems.

``Bill's mainly the person responsible for turning around my life,'' Strawberry told the New York Post. ``When there was no hope, he made hope for me.

``It wasn't just one of those agent relationships where he just negotiated a deal for us and you never heard from his again. He talked to us two or three times a day,'' said Strawberry, who is trying to hook up with a new team for the 1996 season.

A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at The Riverside in New York.
