Indians Claim Bell Off Waivers
CLEVELAND (AP) _ The Cleveland Indians claimed infielder David Bell off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
To make room for Bell on the 40-man roster, the Indians transfered infielder Enrique Wilson to the 60-day disabled list. Wilson went on the 15-day DL April 6 with torn ligaments in his left thumb.
Bell, 25, son of former Indians star and current Detroit Tigers manager Buddy Bell, batted .222 (2-for-9) in four games for St. Louis this season. He was drafted by the Indians in the seventh round of the 1990 Amateur Draft and dealt to St. Louis in 1995 in a trade that sent pitcher Ken Hill to Cleveland.
