AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) _ The New York Knicks signed Lee Nailon on Wednesday, adding the forward to their injury-depleted roster.
Nailon was released last week by New Orleans after averaging 10.8 points and 3.2 rebounds last season for the Hornets. The 6-foot-8, 241-pound forward started 41 games _ all last year _ and played in a total of 121 during his two seasons with the Hornets.
Nailon was not with the Knicks when the season began Wednesday at Detroit. He was to meet the team in Philadelphia on Thursday before making his debut against the 76ers on Friday. Terms of his contract were not disclosed
The Knicks will be able to use Nailon right away with Latrell Sprewell out for at least the first five games of the season with a broken hand, and Antonio McDyess out for the season with a knee injury.
Nailon will be expected to contribute much-needed scoring as he joins forwards Shandon Anderson and Clarence Weatherspoon. Nailon scored 20 or more points nine times last season.
The South Bend, Ind., native began his professional career in Italy during the 1999-00 season after two seasons at Texas Christian.
