Lower Elkhorn NRD awards City of Norfolk tree planting grant

December 17, 2018

NORFOLK - The City of Norfolk has received tree planting funds from the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District.

The Park Beautification Project received a little over $3,000 that will go towards the purchase of 20 trees and support materials for planting in various parks.

Park Superintendent Pat Mrsny says they’re looking at a variety of trees to buy and plant.

“We’ve got some Norway and Colorado Spruces, Crabapples for color, Maple, Oaks, Callery Pears, Lindens, Locusts, Tulip Trees, and Kentucky Coffee Trees. We may have to amend what we plan on planting as to what’s available to purchase in the spring.”

Mrsny says they’ll plant 20 trees at Embrace, Winter, and Warren Cook parks.

He says they’re looking to plant the trees early this coming spring.
