Search Underway For Boy In North Pocono Area

May 19, 2019

A 14-year-old Covington Twp. boy walked away from his home Friday evening and hasn’t been seen since.

A search party is combing through the township today to find Owens Hartley.

He was last seen about 5 or 5:30 p.m. Friday outside his home near the Scranton-Pocono Highway and Dorantown Road, his mother, Jami Hartley, said. She said he walked into the woods following an argument.

Search teams are using dogs to track the boy, police said.

Unofficial search parties already checked places he might have gone, stretching from the forest around his home to the Viewmont Mall.

Friends first gathered to look for him, then the men’s and women’s groups from her church, First Baptist Church of Hollisterville, organized larger search parties.

“This is so out of character of him,” Jami Hartley said. “I truly thought he’d be home at first light.”

He is described as being about 5 feet 7 inches tall, last seen wearing an Adidas hoodie, olive green pants and red and black shoes.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911.
