Children’s Community Theatre plans series of summer camps
Children’s Community Theatre of DeKalb County will offer three engaging summer camps customized for young performers in three age groups.
All three camps will run at the newly renovated O’Connell Theater on Northern Illinois University’s main campus in DeKalb.

Beginner’s Camp, June 3 to 14
Beginner’s Camp is for children who have completed kindergarten through fourth grade. Campers will perform “Pirates Past Noon,” based on the novel of the same name from Mary Pope Osborne’s “Magic Treehouse” series.
Schedule: 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday with a performance at 7 p.m. June 14
Rising Star Camp, June 10 to 20
Rising Star Camp is for children who have completed fifth grade through those in seventh grade. Campers will perform “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.,” based on the Academy Award-winning film and the hit Broadway show.
Aladdin and friends are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie with the power to grant three wishes.
Schedule: Noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with performances at 7 p.m.
June 21 and June 22 and 3 p.m. June 23
Advanced Broadway Theatre Camp, June 17 to 27
Advanced Broadway Theatre Camp is for students who have completed eighth grade through 12th grade. Campers will perform “The Drowsy Chaperone,” an homage to American musicals of the Jazz Age and the effect musicals have on the fans who adore them.
Schedule: Noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with performances at 7 p.m.
