Mason County Central High School jazz musicians honored
SCOTTVILLE — Two Mason County Central High School Jazz Band students — trumpeter Logan Hargreaves and tenor saxophonist Adam Fulton — have received honorable mentions from the Michigan Youth Arts Festival, taking place May 9-11 at Western Michigan University.
While they will not perform at the festival, MCC Band Director Tom Thomas said it’s still an honor, as the students were chosen from more than 1,500 musicians from all throughout Michigan.
The Michigan Youth Arts Festival was launched in 1963 as a way to showcase the talents of Michigan youths in the arts.
Each year, jazz musicians are nominated by their directors and critiqued by judges at the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) State Jazz Festival.
After all festivals are complete, judges convene to choose a performing ensemble for the festival and 100 honorable mention students to showcase outstanding performance.
