Bridgeport firefighters extinguish attic fire
BRIDGEPORT — Firefighters braved the below-freezing temperatures to battle an attic fire in the city Friday night.
Around 8:40 p.m., a call came in to the 911 dispatchers about smoke in the area of Aldine Avenue. A fire unit was dispatched and the call quickly upgraded, following an additional 911 call, to a structure fire in the 150 block of Aldine Avenue.
The first fire unit on the scene reported fire showing from the attic of the dwelling.
Within about 10 minutes, a fire unit on scene said all hands were working and that the fire appeared to be knocked down. A few minutes later, that same firefighter confirmed that the fire was out and that primary searches of the building checked clear.
By around 9:15 p.m., a recall of alarm of fire was called and all companies on scene were doing an overhaul to ensure there were no hotspots left to reignite the blaze.
A public works truck was requested by firefighters to treat the street, likely to prevent any water on the roadway from freezing.
