Braves Sign Pitcher Kamieniecki
ATLANTA (AP) _ The Braves signed right-hander Scott Kamieniecki on Wednesday in an effort to bolster their injury-riddled pitching staff.
Kamieniecki, designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians on June 23, refused the assignment and became a free agent. He will be available to pitch Thursday, when the Braves will have to make a roster move.
Kamieniecki was 1-3 with a 5.67 ERA in 26 games with the Indians. He gave up 42 hits and 22 earned runs in 33 1-3 innings.
After pitching for the the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, Kamieniecki was signed as a free agent by Cleveland in December. He has a 51-58 career record.
Atlanta has seven pitchers on the disabled list, including John Smoltz, Odalis Perez, David Cortes and Rudy Seanez, all out for the season; and Greg McMichael, Luis Rivera and Kevin McGlinchy.
Rivera is on a rehabilitation assignment in the minors and McGlinchy will begin rehab Thursday at Triple-A Richmond.
