Police probe brazen shooting at LA homeless encampment
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police are investigating a brazen daylight shooting of a man at a homeless encampment.
The midafternoon attack caught on video occurred July 26 in Mar Vista.
Police say a car pulled up, the driver got out and jogged toward the sidewalk where three males were gathered near tents.
The driver pulled a handgun and fired multiple rounds at one of the individuals, who all scattered.
A passenger got out of the car, pointed toward a person taking cover behind a tent and then both men ran back to the car and drove off.
The victim was hospitalized in stable condition. Police say it appears the attackers knew the victim and targeted him.
Residents tell KCBS-TV the encampment has brought drug dealing, drug use and prostitution to the neighborhood.
