Lawyer: Victim of Cape Cod blaze a retired doctor
CHATHAM, Mass. (AP) — The victim of a fire at a Chatham home has been identified by the man’s lawyer as a retired surgeon from Connecticut.
Mickey Sherman tells the Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/17Hj3Y0 ) that his client, 74-year-old Robert George, was the victim of the blaze reported just after 10 p.m. Monday. The home was destroyed.
George is a retired orthopedic surgeon from Darien, Connecticut.
The fire leveled about three-quarters of the 2,000-square-foot house and gutted the portion left standing. The house was built in 1981 and is owned by George and his wife, Linda, according to town assessor’s records. The property is assessed at $2.4 million.
Sherman was representing George on charges out of Connecticut that he assaulted his wife.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
