Teen driving SUV injured in crash
A 14-year-old Ohio boy was injured early Wednesday when the SUV he was driving left a Steuben County road and struck a utility pole, causing a power outage, the sheriff’s department said.
At 2:25 a.m., the sheriff’s department said deputies were called to the area of Golden Lake Road south of U.S. 20 on a complaint about stolen vehicles. Angola police later joined in the investigation.
While checking the area, the department said, one of the deputies saw an SUV matching the description of a stolen 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe drive by and attempted to stop it.
The SUV driver left the side of the road and hit a utility pole, the sheriff’s department said.
He was pinned inside the vehicle.
The driver was removed from the vehicle and taken by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
No one was arrested.
Officers were able to recover both stolen vehicles, the sheriff’s department said. Angola and Steuben Township firefighters assisted.
