Armed Former Mental Patient Arrested in Courtroom
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) _ A former mental patient armed with two loaded pistols was arrested in a courtroom moments after authorities were told that he planned to kill a judge, officials said.
Leslie Swayne, 41, was arrested without resistance Wednesday by four bailiffs in the courtroom of Superior Court Judge Coleman Swart. A loaded 9mm pistol and a .22-caliber automatic were found in his pockets, authorities said.
Swayne, an Altadena resident awaiting a pretrial hearing on a charge of committing arson at his parents’ home, was booked for investigation of carrying concealed weapons.
The bailiffs were alerted after Swayne’s parents went to the courthouse and warned Deputy District Attorney Judson Morris that their son had been making threats.
″His family came into my office and said he would bring guns to court to kill the judge,″ Morris said.
