No. 19 Clemson 79, Georgia Tech 56
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Nikki Blassingame and Kerri Thomas combined for 28 and 17 rebounds Thursday night to lead No. 19 Clemson to a 79-56 victory over Georgia Tech.
The Tigers (15-3, 7-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) jumped to a 24-9 lead and were up by 17 at the half, paced by their post players’ 12 baskets.
Poor foul shooting (11-of-23) hurt Georgia Tech (8-9, 2-6) and Clemson stretched its lead to 24 at the 10-minute mark of the second half. Reserve guard Nuria Forns hit two 3-pointers, and Itoro Umoh scored a couple of fast-break layups to spark the run.
The Yellow Jackets twice cut the lead to 17, but got no closer.
Ten players scored for Clemson, which committed only nine turnovers.
Blassingame and Thomas had 14 points apiece, while Umoh finished with 13 points and four steals. Freshman Erin Batth contributed 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting.
Kenya Williams led Georgia Tech with 15 points. Joannah Kauffman had nine points and 10 rebounds.
