Teenager pleads guilty in killing of rival gang member

November 8, 2018

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A Syracuse teenager is facing 18 years in prison for the shooting death of another teen who prosecutors say was in a rival gang.

Syracuse.com reports 16-year-old Lamar Murray’s original charge of murder was reduced to manslaughter as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Police say the victim, 18-year-old Jaquan Moore, was shot in the head while he was in a vehicle stopped at a traffic light in Syracuse last December.

Moore’s vehicle crashed after the shooting, and he was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Prosecutors say Murray was a member of the Richmond Zoo gang, and Moore was a member of the rival 18th Street gang.

Murray was due to go to trial next week. He will instead remain in custody until his sentencing in December.
