Northern Vermont groups to share $2.8 million in grants
FAIRFAX, Vt. (AP) — Officials say 14 organizations in northern Vermont are sharing $2.8 million in federal grants aimed at creating jobs, building infrastructure and training new workers.
Republican Gov. Phil Scott and U.S Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. Peter Welch, both Democrats, announced the Northern Border Regional Commission grants on Friday.
Among the recipients, the town of Fairfax is getting $263,000 to expand water and wastewater infrastructure to a building for maple products business Runamok, allowing the company to expand from 45 to more than 100 employees.
The Lamoille County Planning Commission will receive $345,000 to relocate on-road parking to central locations in Smuggler’s Notch. And the town of Burke is getting more than $438,000 to rehabilitate, add a bike lane and improve drainage on a road in partnership with Kingdom Trails.
