Princess Victoria Enrolls at Yale

January 27, 1998

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) _ Royalty is gracing the hallowed halls of Yale University.

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, eager to escape the prying eyes of the media in her own country, is taking classes at the Ivy League school. She is the heir to the Swedish throne.

The eldest of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s three children is enrolled as a ``special student″ this semester, Dean of Student Affairs Betty Trachtenberg told the Yale Daily News. Special students typically are undergraduates who only are enrolled part-time and do not take a full course load.

According to the Swedish Embassy in Washington, the 20-year-old princess will stay in the United States through the spring to pursue courses to improve her English and ``gain an insight into the American society.″

The embassy refused to say whether she was enrolled at Yale.
