Hawkins takes House seat, Collins moves to Senate
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) — Two Democrats have won special elections for seats in the state Legislature.
Jim Hawkins defeated Republican City Councilor Julie Hall in a special election for a House seat representing Attleboro on Tuesday.
Hawkins succeeds Democrat Paul Heroux, who left the House after being elected mayor of the city in November.
In Boston, state Rep. Nick Collins was uncontested in Tuesday’s special election to succeed former Democratic state Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry, who left the Senate earlier this year for an executive position at Suffolk Construction.
Both Collins and Hawkins, who is a retired teacher, will have to run again in November to hold their new seats.
