JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska lawmaker has been taken to the hospital following what a spokesman called a medical emergency at the state Capitol.

House majority press secretary Mike Mason says Rep. David Guttenberg was conscious, lucid and joking as he was taken by paramedics to a Juneau hospital on Thursday.

Mason says the extent of Guttenberg’s condition was not immediately known.

Guttenberg is a Democrat from Fairbanks who was first elected to the House in 2002.

He serves on the House Finance Committee, which has been debating the state budget.
