Warrants: Guard arrested after shoving restrained prisoner
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a South Carolina prison guard has been charged with assault after pushing over a restrained inmate.
The Department of Corrections said Travis Laquinton Reese is charged with misconduct in office and third-degree assault and battery.
Arrest warrants say Reese pushed an inmate in leg restraints and handcuffs to the ground Aug. 1 at Broad River Correctional Institution in Columbia.
The warrants also say the prison’s captain didn’t report he used force and tried to forge documents to alter the investigation into the incident.
The warrants say Reese was charged after investigators watched video of the encounter and got a sworn statement from the inmate.
It wasn’t known if Reese had a lawyer.
