Lady T-birds lose 11-4 despite Salahub’s home run
BULLHEAD CITY — Senior Tiffany Salahub hit a home run for the host Lady T-birds, but that was not enough as the visiting Coconino High School Lady Panthers romped to an 11-4 victory at Mohave High School on Friday.
The Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A Grand Canyon Region loss dropped the No. 40-ranked T-birds’ record to 0-9 overall, 0-7 in conference and 0-4 in region, according to the ranking’s system of aiaonline.org. The No. 9-ranked Panthers are 7-1 overall, 7-1 in conference and 5-1 in region.
Salahub also scored two runs and had three RBI in three at-bats; senior Daez’ha Goodloe doubled twice in four at-bats; senior Sammie Welt doubled, scored one run and walked in two at-bats to lead the T-birds’ offense.
Coconino senior Kaitlyn Snopek gave up four runs — two earned — on seven hits, while striking out nine and walking one during her seven-inning, complete game win.
Welt gave up 11 runs — five earned — on 11 hits, while striking out two and walking six during her complete-game loss.
Senior Taylor Brown doubled, singled three times, had three RBI and scored one run in four at-bats; junior Lexi Bartell hit four singles and knocked home two runs in four at-bats; and Snopek hit four singles, had three RBI and scored three runs to lead the Panthers’ offense.
