ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) _ Officer, considered a leading Kentucky Derby contender last fall, cruised to a six-length victory Sunday in the $106,800 Zany Tactics Stakes at Santa Anita.

The 3-10 favorite covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.71 on a fast track. Hot War followed, finishing three lengths ahead of Duddly Doo Run.

Officer paid $2.60, $2.10 and $2.10. Hot War returned $3.60 and $2.10. Duddly Doo Run, a 39-1 long shot, paid $2.10 to show.

Carrying 120 pounds including Victor Espinoza, Officer settled outside early, moved up four wide to take command on the turn and drew off in the stretch.

``I just wanted to get him out of the gate and then let him do what he wanted to do,″ Espinoza said. ``By the time we got to the three-eighths pole he wanted to go, and I let him go. It was very easy from there, he was just breezing.″

It was Officer’s first start since he finished third in the Hollywood Futurity on Dec. 15.

Officer won his first five starts last year by a combined 26 1/4 lengths before finishing fifth as the 7-10 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Oct. 27.

Officer finished second in the California Cup Juvenile a week later and third in the Hollywood Futurity before trainer Bob Baffert gave him nearly four months off.

The win was the sixth in nine lifetime starts for Officer and was worth $64,080, raising his career total to $804,090.

In the co-feature, Rolly Polly took the $108,500 Las Cienegas Handicap by three-quarters of a length over Penny Marie.

The 2-1 favorite finished the 6 1/2-furlong on the turf in 1:12.55. Rolly Polly carried Kent Desormeaux at 119 pounds and paid $6, $3.40 and $2.40. Penny Marie returned $3.80 and $2.80 and Twin Set paid $2.80 to show.

The win was the eighth in 12 lifetime starts for Rolly Polly and was worth $65,100, raising her career total to $290,320.
