Kishwaukee Family YMCA wins two awards
SYCAMORE – Kishwaukee Family YMCA staff came back from the 2018 YMCA Illinois Fall Staff Rally with some hardware, according to a news release from the Y.
Gary Evans, the vice chairman of the board at the local Y, 2500 Bethany Road, received the 2018 Community Impact Award for his volunteerism at the YMCA and within the community.
Evans has been the driving force behind the annual YMCA Community Awards dinner, raises crucial funds for YMCA programs and is an integral part of YMCA community events. His community involvement includes serving on the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation, Family Service Agency, Sycamore Chamber of Commerce, and Sycamore Rotary club.
The local Y also received a Program Excellence Award for Camp Power, a free collaborative summer camp for children in University Village.
The program was recognized for an increase in fruit and vegetable consumption by children, reductions in summer learning loss and the crime rate, increases in physical activity and employment opportunities, and adding access to services within the community, according to the release.
