Elizabeth Dole’s Mother Hospitalized
SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) _ The 101-year-old mother of Sen.-elect Elizabeth Dole was hospitalized Friday after falling ill at home.
Mary Hanford was rushed to Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury on Thursday night. She was in fair condition Friday and undergoing tests in the hospital’s heart unit, said hospital spokeswoman Zandra Spencer.
Doctors said Hanford, who has had heart problems in the past, had not suffered a stroke as the family initially feared, said her son, John Hanford.
``I think she was a little low on oxygen,″ John Hanford said. ``And it alarmed us. We’ll know a little more when they finish the tests.″
Elizabeth Dole was in Washington and planned to remain there since her mother seem to be recovering well, her spokeswoman Mary Brown Brewer said Friday. The new Senate convenes Tuesday.
